Rapid City was founded in 1876 and originally known as "Hay Camp." This historical perspective is how the brewery got its name. The beginning was modest, starting as a bootstrapping business endeavor out of one of the owner's garage and has since morphed into a 37,000 sq ft, multi-use building, referred to as The Mothership. The Mothership is a multi-use business hub housing a coffee shop, art gallery, concert hall, wood shop, offices and underground/configurable storage with Hay Camp Brewing Co being the central business.
